Library digitisation project
Original practice text
Zusätzliche Übung
A regional library is digitising newspapers published before 1950. Fragile volumes are photographed with a non-contact scanner, while less fragile material may be processed using a faster sheet scanner. The first project phase covers newspapers from five towns and is expected to take eighteen months.
Images will be searchable through optical character recognition, but the library warns that old typefaces may produce errors. Users will be able to suggest corrections. Copyright restrictions may prevent some issues from being available outside the library network. The project budget includes scanning and software costs but not the restoration of damaged originals.
